Now, I’m no cowgirl, but this shoot had me feeling all sorts of oohs and aaahs.
As a photographer, you go through a phase where you need to find your style. Sure, you are attracted to certain things, but it’s very easy to try and copy other photographers looks that are all different and not YOU (and then things get messy!)
You know what I’m talking about. How if you think of travel beach photos you think of turquoise water, bright and airy light, and maybe some colorful flowers. On the other hand there’s the fashion influencer with warm beigey colors and lots of gold. Next to each they’re COMPLETELY different and no one would ever guess that the same photographer took them.
Personally, I love clean, modern, slightly cooler tones with a moodier feel.
I’m not a bright and colorful kind of gal. Honestly, I’m one of those freaks that loves the rain and the very “dreary” days.
Which brings me to this shoot I did for a local Western and Outdoors store.

Researching western photos, almost 90% of them are going to have the very warm sepia tones (like- OVERLY warm, colors low key get washed away completely,) with the thumbs tucked in the pockets OR the very girly cowgirl shots with LOTS of bling, hand on the hip and a yeehaw for good luck.
That just ain’t me.
So how did I stay true to my style all while creating gorgeous western photos?

I kept things simple. From the makeup and styling, down to the chosen outfits and posing. Like I always do. (consistency is keeey)
I always make sure that the images have the opportunity to be timeless yet very modern. Clean, not over complicated, but super attractive. Representing the brand with a lux feel and paying attention to small details.

Finally, these photos were edited keeping some warmth but not overpowering it, (oh and I OBVIOUSLY included black and white photos because come on, so classic and yummy.) Staying true to my vision gives my client a clean gallery, (that isn’t over edited – yikes.. been there,) and it speaks volumes as you being a photographer.
The more you shoot, the more you hone in on your style and your editing process. This attracts your clientele and shows them that yes, you are an artist and follow your vision, but you still have the skills to take on the visions of others. A happy little mix.

I can’t tell you how many times clients have gotten their completed gallery and THANKED me for the way I edit and captured their brand.
They always went with Jane Doe photographer who does the perfect IG style photos with the trending presets and poses. But, it’s not always the feel and look each brand wants to go with.
Yes, things can be trending, but remember, there will always be someone who loves your vision and style.
Play around, explore what styles you are already attracted to, stay true and go take some gorgeous photos my dear!
